Transforming lives with exceptional learning - aspiring beyond the expected

Year Five UPDATED: 5/4/20

On this page, you will find the Home Learning Packs for Maths, Literacy, SPAG, Guided Reading and Science

I aim to update this page regularly, so please make regular visits to access all of the resources which have been updated or added.

Every child will have been provided with an exercise book and a pencil in order to complete their work. Some activities can be completed on the sheet and stuck/stapled in or you may copy and complete them in your exercise books. Please do whichever you feel is easiest for you.

You are more than welcome to do extra work and put this in your workbook too, whether it is some extra math or simply writing a poem or story, why not take photos of some learning you are taking part in and stick these in too. You have work to do, but we want you to enjoy what you are doing too.

Monday 6th April

Good morning! I have uploaded the second round of home learning tasks to the website.
You can find a range of Maths, Math Challenges, Literacy and SPAG, Guided Reading and Easter Activities. Please complete these when you wish and in whatever order you wish. I will not be posting any videos this time as the maths has now all been covered in the videos I have posted.

There are some Math Challenges from Classroom secrets which the children are used to completing. These range from fairly easy (The sheet with a red D in the small star) to potentially really tricky (The sheet with an orange GD in the small star).

Have fun, enjoy Easter and make sure you stay safe. I miss you all tremendously - Mr C

Wednesday 1st April

Good morning! Today's math task is calculating angles, watch the video for a short introduction and a slight explanation about the challenge worksheet which you can download underneath. There is also a lot of interruption from Winston.

For Literacy today, you can watch a film and then write a film review using the worksheet attached below. Make sure you provide your opinion about the film, don't write more than 1/4 of it retelling what happened.

Below, you will find; the math challenge worksheet, the literacy task which is not included in you park and the worksheet for math on Thursday which is also not in your pack.

Tuesday 31st March
No Good morning! Today's video is all about angles. There is some information at the beginning which you do not need for today's worksheet however it is stuff you do need to know and it may come up on a following worksheet or in one of the challenges which I am going to add below the video.

There are 2 worksheets to complete from your pack today which you should see in the video and then there is a challenge (an easy challenge today) below which you will either need to print out or simply write the answers for as this is not included in your pack.

You can choose your own Literacy, SPAG, and Science tasks for today. Why not start writing a diary about everything you have been up to during the lockdown? This event is a big thing and your diary could be a primary resource in the future when someone writes about this event which happened all around the world.

Monday 30th March
No video again today! The math worksheets you can complete today (shown in the photos below) are all a recap of things you should have learnt up to year 5. A nice and simple task for a Monday morning. Tomorrow there will be a video explaining how to calculate angles.

There are 3 shape worksheets to complete in total.

For today's literacy task, you can complete the Continue the Story sheet, you can use the skills you used to create suspense in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in this piece of spooky writing too. Create a really exciting piece of writing with complex and compound sentences, impressive vocabulary and some Alan Peat sentences.

Here is a link to some Alan Peat sentences you could include in your writing today with explanations on how to use them.

Friday 27th March
No video today! The math worksheets you can complete today (shown in the photos below) are all working out percentages of amounts which I explained in yesterday's video. Just remember to move the digits to the right two spaces if you are dividing by 100 to find 1% before multiplying that answer by whatever amount you are trying to calculate, such as; 65% 23% 13% etc.

There are 4 worksheets to complete in total.

For today's literacy task, you can complete the Titanic worksheet. Create a really exciting piece of writing with complex and compound sentences, impressive vocabulary and some Alan Peat sentences.

Here is a link to some Alan Peat sentences you could include in your writing today with explanations on how to use them. www.kelsall.cheshire.sch.uk/serve_file/94451  <--- Alan Peat Sentences

Thursday 26th March
In today's video, I explain your forth math, and literacy tasks. Today's literacy task can be funny if you really think about it. Use Alan Peat sentences and create some exciting writing. I want to laugh my socks off!
